Making Maths come alive

Learning about shapes while experimenting with shapes

Learning about measuring while playing with water.

We have been learning about patterns. We have gone pattern crazy and can show our learning in a number of ways.

This term I have adopted a new approach to teaching Maths using Number Agents.
Why? I noticed that the progress in my target group was slow, possibly due to disengagement, or learning in isolation. The number agents have brought in a fun, real element for these students and they are enthusiastic about daily participation. Each day has a number of basic learning activities related to their level. The there is always a problem which they need to solve.

Here a student is seen practising what was learnt in her own time. She uses the professor's hat as reassurance and to make her learning relevant to her.

The problem here involved the children helping Goldilocks sort out the three bears things before they returned home. Great group work. Students share strategies and solutions. Less able students repeat strategy learnt.
