One of my goals this year has been to integrate Religious Education into my daily learning instead of isolating the subject into specific RE lessons. I have found this far more successful and meaningful to the children in my class. This term we were learning about God. I used my prior knowledge of the RE curriculum and the AO`s that needed to be covered. I incorporated God in writing, reading, maths and topic. This term we were learning about the Waikato river. I took photos of the places that we would visit on our trip to the river and used these to form discussions on things God created, vs what man made. We also looked at photos that I had taken about litter found there. Together we discussed our position as carers of God`s creation and how we could right the wrongs of other humans. The class came up with the idea of taking bags to pick up rubbish on our trip.
The lesson presented here was observed by Noreen Miekle.

We learnt about God`s creation and how God made everything so that it could reproduce itself. In reading I chose a poem called Vegetable Soup. We then decided to make vegetable soup in class. Each child brought in vegetables ( created by God) In preparing them we discovered seeds inside some of the vegetables and kept these to plant at a later stage and cultivated carrots and potatoes from offcuts.

We also composted all the scraps so that the vegetable cuttings could be reabsorbed into nature to feed the Earth.
