Learning our personal details

This term we have been learning about keeping ourselves safe. As part of this concept children were given the responsibility to learn their address and telephone numbers. The incentive was class wide. as soon as everyone in the class had mastered them then we would have a celebratory party. The class decided on cake and ice-cream for all. The learning was quick and easy for some, who went home immediately and learnt it. However, for the majority it was really hard as their parents did not help them learn it over an extended period, and gave up after teaching once or twice. We are now at 1 1/2 weeks to go before the holidays and we still need 12 to learn their telephone numbers, and one to learn her address. Some have even independently made use of iPads and extra paper to write the numbersWhen asked how we could help each other, a few of the children came up with the idea that they would help each other to learn. They asked me to write the number of their friend and then helped teach their friend throughout the day. I am hoping that we may still reach our goal. I find the children teaching each othet fascinating and enthusing. Their is such an excited atmosphere among each other as well as a cheering along from the tutor. A great sense of satisfaction from all.
